The mushroom offered comes from Acromyrmex octospinosus and is provided fresh.
The replacement mushroom is especially intended for situations where a colony's existing mushroom garden has been severely damaged or completely lost.
According to product specifications, a mushroom piece of at least 1 cm³ is intended for restarting a colony size of approximately 11–25 animals.
Depending on the condition and size of the colony, the actual requirement may vary.

Leaf-cutter ants do not feed directly on the collected leaves. The leaves serve as a substrate for the fungus that the ants cultivate in their colony.

The fungus thus represents a central component of the colony's nutrition and life.
The transport container can be opened and placed near the ant colony.
The ants can then independently take up the offered mushroom and integrate it into their existing mushroom garden.
For a weakened colony, particular attention should be paid to ensuring that the necessary husbandry conditions are reliably re-established.
For the mushroom to survive and develop, suitable temperature and humidity conditions are crucial.
For storing the offered mushroom piece, approximately 25 °C and 90% humidity are required.
Even after introduction, suitable climate within the enclosure must be maintained.
Too low or too high humidity, as well as unsuitable temperatures, can impair the development of the mushroom.
The delivered mushroom piece may contain small fungus caretakers (mini workers).
These small workers look after the fungus and do not represent a relevant impairment for the existing colony.
